Greetings all,

Our next Meeting/Gathering.  Our next meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, July 14 at the MREA.  We will meet ahead of the film Intern Ellie Jackson has scheduled for the month. Those interested can then stay for the film. 


   The 2011 Farm Fresh Atlas is out and can be picked up at area libraries or by calling Sue Anderson at 715.347.6460.  If you want a stack for your club, church or workplace please let Sue know.

 

MREA will schedule a film presentation at 7:00 p.m. on July 14th – title is being finalized.  We will include the details in next month’s newsletter.

? June 11, 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. Ninepatch Farm Tour sponsored by Central WI Farmshed
Farm located at 10849 3rd Lane in Athens, WI.   Host – Craig Carlson
Ninepatch Farm is a small family farm producing gourmet meats.  They offer pasture raised chickens and turkeys, 100% grass fed beef, free-range brown eggs, as well as pork.  All animals are raised free of hormones, herbicides or pesticides. 

Come hear their story of how the pasture based farm was created from a previously row cropped farm.  Also learn how Craig sources grains locally from neighboring farmers to supplement his animals’ diets.  All of the products are directly marketed to customers.  Craig sells weekly at the Saturday Wausau Farmers’ Market.

June 17-19, The 22nd Annual Energy Fair at MREA Grounds
The Energy Fair brings in over 20,000 people from nearly every state and several countries to learn, connect with others and ready themselves for action at home.  The Energy Fair is the nation’s longest running energy education event of its kind.  The Energy Fair features:

-- Over 275 exhibitors – featuring sustainable living and clean energy products.
-- Over 200 workshops – including introductory level to advanced hands-on education in solar, wind, green building, local sustainable food and more.
-- Clean Energy Car Show – featuring demonstration vehicles and exhibitors.
-- Green Home Pavilion – emphasizing building and remodeling in a sustainable way.
-- Green Building Demos – displaying sustainable building techniques in action.
-- Sustainable Tables – including workshops, chef demos, and a farmers’ market.
-- Inspirational speakers, lively entertainment, great food and local beer.


? June 21, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Raikowski Farm Tour sponsored by Central WI Farmshed
Farm located at 4025 Cty Hy H in Junction City.  Hosts – Sara & Larry Raikowski
Raikowski Farm raises quality food using natural practices, including many types of meats and produce, eggs, honey, and maple syrup.  They also have added a certified kitchen to the farm and process many products with ingredients that are grown on the farm.  The Raikowskis also manage the indoor farm market, Market on Strongs, located at 1332 Strongs Avenue in downtown Stevens Point.

Come visit their farm to see the combination of diverse production and creative marketing.

June Portage County Lakes Meetings.
Linda Stoll has notified us of the Final June Lakes Planning Meetings.  The remaining discussions do not include Stockton lakes but anyone is welcome to attend any of the meetings.  I’m attaching Linda’s notice to this e-mail if you are interested in attending.
